Innovation for a Cause

This project explores the potential of innovative microfinance – how it fills a gap in current development efforts, and its ability to scale to impact. It will utilize Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva as case studies, and explore their potential to positively impact communities in Timor-Leste and other countries largely let down by international aid efforts. There is great potential in financial technologies: not only to serve the well-off, but those never before included in the financial market. Asset-backed and person-to-person microfinance fosters economic inclusion for populations previously ignored, and enables rural and urban families alike to embark on sustainable livelihood operations.
