What I’ve Learned So Far About Multimodal

Does anyone know what multimodal means? When I hear it, I draw a blank. I’m sure it’s supposed to have something to do with media, that is what the project is about, but multi modes?

When I first heard the words multimodal, there wasn’t much of a reaction. I kept waiting to finally understand what I was supposed to be doing.

So, I waited. And I waited. Then I waited some more…and some more…and then some more afterward. But nothing.

When I started seeing people put together infographics and when we had the first meeting with Christina Ri, (I may have to have a dedication post for her as well) I realized that the word that I had been looking for was media. We were to use different forms of media.

I’ve taken many English classes, but my favorite in high school was Newspaper. Being the page editor and an author, I became very close with InDesign, which is a software that helps to design pages like newspapers and magazines. And if it’s Adobe, it’s going to be difficult.

But, since I figured I’ve suffered enough for most of us, here’s a quick video of the basics.

But, since I already had a vague understanding of the ins and outs of InDesign, I decided that I had decided. Yes, that does sound weird, but it’s the truth. I closed out of Google, stopped searching “multimodal” and set to work.

The process after this is a story for another day, probably very soon. But to keep you on the edge of your seat, it’s about translating. I’ll leave it at that.
