Experience
Note: This page is a non-objective understanding of my experience on r/atheism.
r/atheism is elitist
There are some members of r/atheism who feel like they have a superior understanding of the world and are enlightened for not needing a religion as a source of a moral compass. This is why some members of other reddit channels feel like r/atheism is filled with people who are “pretentious”.
Agnosticism versus Atheism
Although the community rules state that this forum is for both agnostics and atheists, successful posts are traditionally extremist.
Battling Oppression versus Battling God
A large portion of arguments are not against the existence of god, but rather against oppression that certain religions create. For example, religious arguments against LGBT communities are a large portion of the content that succeeds on r/atheism. Many could argue that r/atheism is therefore a ground for battling religious arguments against oppression rather than the notion of God itself.
