Reddit is a culture of various subcultures: one of their largest subcultures and an attribute associated with many redditors is atheism. As of October 16th, 2012, there are currently 1,231,574 goddless subscribers, and approximately 2000 online at any given point in time. The subreddit r/atheism is an online congregation for those who do not believe in the existence of god. There are very strong attributes and worldly assertions of the individuals subscribed that is encompassed by the nature of their posts, content, and comments. Reddit is a platform that consists of up voting, down voting, and commenting on various user-generated links to content relevant to a specific topic or ideology. I’ve been a long time redditor and an active participant in the /r/atheism culture. This site will serve as a reference to the identity, views, demographics, terms , and role of the internet, and personal experience of the culture embodied by r/atheism.
Throughout the site, I will refer to redditors, r/atheism, upvoting, downvoting, and the reddit community. For those of you who are not familiar with these terms, I would suggest reading my glossary.
I will be using observation and quantitative analysis of the posts on r/atheism to state the views of r/atheism as well as quantitative analysis of r/christians on the board r/atheism to state views of christians on r/atheism. I will also use the resource Alexa and Stattit to provide demographics on the members of the culture.
