This past quarter, I worked with Professor Aoki’s ARTS 74 students on their digital imaging projects by using historic photos from the SCU Digital Collections. Students could either pick a black and white photo to colorize (with extra points if they had done research to back up their color selections), or recreate an historic photo and digitally alter it to look old. Below are some of my favorite results, which provide a fun glimpse into the imagination of SCU students! Well done ARTS 74! ?
Ryan Wong recreated this classic photo taken by SCU Photographer Chuck Eymann of a student seemingly fleeing over a fence on move-in day from the SCU in the 70s Digital Collection.
Kristina Yin went for the studious feel by infusing this shot of the interior of the Law Library in Bergin Hall with some jazzy colors. Makes you want to crack open a book on torts, doesn’t it?
Antonio Mora opted to colorize this photo of SCU Football players from the Richard T. Coz S.J. Collection and digitized in Claravision. Extra points for the truly red Bronco jersey.
Carly Kellner updated this photo of a stylish female student paging through an issue of Vogue magazine, going so far as to research the specific issue to faithfully colorize the cover.
Katherine Simons expertly re-created and old-ified Chuck Eymann’s photo of the Santa Clara pastime of sun bathing in the Mission Gardens. She even donned her 70s style Adidas shorts for the photoshoot!
Katherine O’Malley also felt moved to colorize this girl in trendy sunglasses photographed by Chuck Eymann from the SCU in the 70s Digital Collection, focusing on her hair and sunglasses.
