I\u2019ve worked through lunch, there\u2019s a meeting in fifteen minutes, and I feel like I\u2019m being chased by a powerful locomotive.<\/p>\n<p>With our days crammed full of external demands, distractions, and commotion, too many of us are caught up in workplace stress to the detriment of our emotional and physical well-being. The World Health Organization calls it the number one health problem in the United States.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/writeherewritenow\/files\/2015\/05\/LOTUSindex.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1203\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/writeherewritenow\/files\/2015\/05\/LOTUSindex.jpg\" alt=\"LOTUSindex\" width=\"227\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a>Yet we now know that the simple practice of mindfulness can relieve stress, bring us back to ourselves, improve our health, and clear our minds, helping us work more effectively, live more harmoniously (Dreher, 2015; Kabat-Zinn, 2013).<\/p>\n<p>My morning mindfulness meditation helps me begin the day in a quiet space of peace. But I can still get thrown off track during a busy work day. Now I\u2019ve found a way to push the \u201creset\u201d button back to mindfulness with a new tool: the subversive, simple practice to \u201cjust BE.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It works like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>B<\/strong>reathe\u2014take a slow, deep breath, and gradually release it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>E<\/strong>xperience\u2014ask yourself, \u201cWhat am I feeling right now?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then return to your work, more mindful and centered.<\/p>\n<p>You can use this tool anywhere, any time\u2014in meetings, commuting, working at the computer&#8211;to help you respond more mindfully and make wiser decisions.
