I am currently conducting an extensive research project on parental leave across genders, and am emailing to offer insight and get your thoughts on your proposed Paid Family Leave Policy.\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we are both aware, the US is one of the only existing developed nations without paid parental leave for women, let alone both genders. This lack of gender-inclusive leave not only causes both working families and corporations to lose money, but also reinforces harmful gender stereotypes that exclude women from the workforce. In addition, because existing parental leave policies are most prevalent in high-income jobs, parental leave disparity manifests itself in income disparities. Your proposed 12-week paid leave policy coupled with an anti-retaliation component is a great place to start. But before working parents and graduating students like me can support you, we have a few questions for you.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, I\u2019d caution you on your use of \u201cgender neutral\u201d &#8211; we have to be aware that there are parents that are gender non-binary (meaning not strictly male or female). Another assumption you\u2019re making is that these are heterosexual couples. Have you thought about gay couples and parental leave? Also, how will you enforce anti-retaliation policies?
