Current Student Demographic @ SCU

For my research, I will be focusing on the prominence of prejudice on the Santa Clara University campus. Although this is a small college campus, I feel as though it is big enough to do such research because of the demographic here.

According to the Diversity Webpage for SCU Undergraduate Admission page,

“Santa Clara University’s 5,000 student undergraduate population currently consists of 43% of students of color; about 4% are African-American, 14% are Hispanic/Latino, and 18% are Asian students.”

This population distribution is not a surprise as it is somewhat representative of the demography of the surrounding city. But the focal point of this study is to determine how these groups interact among one another.

On this same diversity website, we find that there are countless student clubs that are based on race and culture. There are rarely clubs that attempt to incorporate different cultural groups into one club. This is where we may see a flaw in the  club system. We tend to celebrate each race and diverse group individually, but not as a whole.
