Paul Locatelli, S.J.’s life at SCU extends well before his 20-year presidency; he graduated in 1961 in Accounting, and became a faculty member in the 1970’s. One of Father Locatelli’s achievements as President was to increase  diversity among the student population. The undergraduate student body now represents a diverse group of students from 39 states and 16 foreign countries.

Father Locatelli made some tough decisions that were not always approved or supported by the student body. To deal with problems that arose with fraternities and sororities and to improve the reputation of SCU, he moved them off the Santa Clara campus in 1993. Because of financial issues, he discontinued the football program, which was very expensive.

Father Locatelli passed away on July 12th, 2010. His accomplishments for the student body and the university curriculum, as well as the countless improvements to the Santa Clara campus (including the Locatelli Center), live on.
