One way that I have used what I have learned in CTW to do more than just work within the course itself was in a diversity course I had last quarter. In that class there was a lot of reading material, and a lot of incorporation of texts. So one way I used what I learned was by learning how to put text into my essay.
For example, in my diversity class, my teacher requires me to incorporate a lot of quotes from readings. For example, when we are trying to put in a piece of text from Michelle Obama’s Commencement Speech we need to say “Michelle Obama, graduate of Princeton university with a major in sociology, and minor in African American studies says,”blah blah blah”. These little introductions are necessary to build repute, and a sense of ethos.
So when applying this to my diversity class, I tend to mention the author’s background now when introducing a quote, to add to my argument. This has helped give my teacher contextual content so that she can see where the origin of the author is.
