Blog Post 19: Recap of What I’ve Learned

What a year it has been. I still remember Week 1 of this quarter when we stepped into class as research novices without any idea how to Boolean search, what hunting and gathering meant, or where we could locate different sources in BEAM. Overall, my favorite part of the process was really using research to underscore my voice, and bring an original argument.

I could consider my research sources as weaponry. The more sources I had, the more strength and firepower I had to present and make my point. The SCU library is an incredibly overlooked resource that is available to you, all for free! I also enjoyed learning a more efficient way to search with databases like EBSCO and JSTOR, both excellent databases. If I had not had that session in the library, developing a strong research argument definitely would’ve been a lot more challenging. Just like how going into a fight would be more challenging without the proper weaponry and resources.
