Blog Post 12: The Research Process

The article I found had to do with student nutrition, and how certain aspects of a colleges’ dining system affects things like student health. I completed a Boolean search and entered College* or student* or dining* in my search bar. This gave me approximately 152 sources to pick from, where I individually searched for ones that would be most relevant to my topic. The article was titled “Obesity and the College Dining Commons,” by Holmes, William B. and Robert Mason.

This showed the relationship between obesity and college dining. This article analyzes the effect of having a mandatory meal plan in an all you can eat system. The way I did this was by brainstorming some key words that related to my topic, and insert them to see what articles I ended up getting. This however led to a total of 152 articles, where only a certain number of them were actually relevant. After reading the article, I learned a lot, and even some things that I didn’t expect to get from the article, which ended up helping me with finding my argument later on.
