Microsoft Office is expensive you say? False!

Recently I fell pray to referring a student to the SCU Bookstore to purchase a discounted version of Microsoft Office. This information was woefully outdated and I have since been turned on to the Microsoft Office “Home Use Program,” or “HUP” for short. All it takes is a brief journey over to microsofthup.com, selecting your country and then providing your SCU e-mail address. SCU does not have a “program code” to the best of my knowledge, but this can be easily worked around by clicking a button just below the login screen indicating that you are unaware of your program code. HUP proceeds to send your SCU e-mail the information needed to receive a working copy of either Microsoft Office 2013 (PC) or Microsoft Office 2011 (Mac).

Onavo: The Exciting VPN App that Could be a Nightmare if You Aren’t Aware of It

In the era of throttled data plans and high overage charges there are a lot of people who are trying to find easy alternatives to keep their data charges low. We learned this firsthand recently when a client could not get through our Safe Connect procedures on his iPhone 5. After three hours of work it was finally narrowed down to an app provided by a company called Onavo called “Onavo Extend.” This fun little app essentially turns your phone into its own mini-VPN thingy which is basically not compatible with broncowifi. From research I have conducted I have determined that this is a problem that is unique to the iPhone version of the app and although an Android version of the app exists, the service is paused when the device is connected to a wifi network, thus not interfering with Safe Connect in any way. So, in the end the next time you might find an iPhone unable to connect to the SCU internet, consider the possibility that the device might be running Onavo Extend.

Forwarding Your GroupWise Emails To You New Gmail Account

As some of you might have noticed, our new SCU Gmail accounts do not currently forward our Groupwise emails into our new inboxes.  To do this, we have to create a new rule in Groupwise.  The following instructions will differ slightly if you are using the online-based Groupwise or the actual software.

If you are using Groupwise online:

1.Go to Options and then click on Rules.

3. Type in a Rule Name ex: Groupwise to Google

4. Fill in the To: field with your username accompanied by the gmail domain name: @gapps.scu.edu  ex: tstudent@gapps.scu.ecu

5. Once you click Save, the rule is complete and you emails should show up in your gmail account now.

If you are using the Groupwise software:

1. Go to Tools and click on Rules.

2. Click New… and type in a Rule Name ex: Groupwise to Google

3. Check the boxes for Received and Mail.

6. Click Save and your new rule is complete.

And there you have it, you are done!

Setting Up Email Import through Gmail
