Culture Hypertext: This project takes a case-study approach at analyzing internet culture. I conducted ethnographic research on the website Pottermore, an online game that continues the Harry Potter experience in a new and interactive way.
Tactical Hypertext: The Internet can be used in many different ways. One way in which the Internet can be used is to spread public awareness to certain causes. It can also be used to call action regarding these causes. This project takes the debated topic of GMOs and turns it into a public awareness campaign, through the use of multimedia and research-based text.
Analytical Hypertext: Cory Doctrow’s Littte Brother details the struggle of a boy named Marcus against the tyrannical oppression of the Department of Homeland Security. This project applies the novels central themes to real-life situations through a focus on the role and purpose of hacktvism. By drawing parallels between Little Brother and real life, this hypertext gives both fictional and nonfictional accounts of hacktivism and civil disobedience online. We also provide a video on our take of the continuation of Little Brother, and the aftermath of Burning Man.
Blog: Here you will find a variety of blogs relating to internet culture, and the role of the internet within society. These blogs range from analysis of sociology scholars, news articles, and amateur bloggers who take on similar internet-based discussions. Don’t forget to comment on a post of you have any interesting insights!
