Get Her Done Attitude<\/strong><\/p>\n

As we have started taking steps towards our final research assignment, I have begun to think about how I completed research in the past. \u00a0Rather than enjoying the process, it was more of a hurry up<\/strong> and finish before the deadline<\/strong>. \u00a0Of course this is dependent on the project itself. \u00a0When I am fascinated<\/strong> by what I am learning about then I can’t wait to find a new source or read a new article. \u00a0However, when an assignment is strict on topic and content it limits ones creativity.<\/p>\n

Favorite Assignments<\/strong><\/p>\n

To date my two favorite research projects were my Senior Project in high school and my final project for CTW I last fall. \u00a0My Senior Project was on censorship in the media. \u00a0I focused on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC<\/strong>) and their guidelines for regulation. \u00a0Interestingly, I found a variety of videos which were censored<\/strong> while ones of similar sort made national television with no regard<\/strong> for their content. \u00a0For example, this<\/a> Victoria’s Secret advertisement was played during Super Bowl 49<\/strong> while this<\/a> Lane Bryant ad never made it to national television.<\/p>\n

My final CTW I project was a research assignment on concert venues<\/strong>. \u00a0For this, I decided to interview people at three different sized venues, small, medium, and large. \u00a0I am from Portland, Oregon so I am most familiar with the music scene there, so that is where I based my research. \u00a0First, I called a 500 person all-floor venue, then a 30,000 person indoor arena, and finally a major stadium in Seattle (since Portland doesn’t have any).<\/p>\n

What I learned<\/strong><\/p>\n

Throughout my research, I learned an immense<\/strong> amount about censorship and the benefits and disadvantages of different sized venues. \u00a0For some these two might seem odd to research, but I loved it. \u00a0Music has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember and censorship has always been fascinating to me because regularly\u00a0media is posted that can easily be considered offensive to some.<\/p>\n

I have found that I most enjoy research projects when I am passionate<\/strong> about the topic. \u00a0As a move forward in research, I hope to find joy<\/strong> in the assignments I am completing. \u00a0I genuinely believe this will help me create more projects that I am proud<\/strong> of.<\/p>\n
