“The Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to cultural and historic preservation.” \u00a0The organization seeks to educate the community, foster an awareness of the\u00a0nation\u2019s history and instill pride in Pakistani citizens about their heritage.<\/p>\n

CAP focuses primarily on oral storytelling in Pakistan in order to emphasize the importance of narratives in a dialogue rather than written word. \u00a0“[CAP]\u00a0has three main goals: to preserve and provide access to the archive, to build and support educational programs, and to develop educational products based on the testimonies collected.”<\/p>\n

The Vision<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Their vision is to develop CAP as the foremost museum and heritage center focusing on\u00a0Pakistani history, photography, culture, literature and historical documentation.<\/p>\n

Each piece is demonstrative of the strength and spirit of Pakistan from the perspective of a citizen. The exhibits and gallery tell stories about the country and provide an intriguing\u00a0and thought-provoking window into the nation\u2019s past, present and future through the eyes of Pakistan’s own citizens.<\/p>\n

A Word on the Founder<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The founder of CAP is\u00a0Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a two-time Academy Award winner. She is a journalist, filmmaker, and activist. \u00a0Obaid-Chinoy is famous for her documentaries “Saving\u00a0Face” and “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness.”<\/p>\n

Her work has taken her around the world and given her an opportunity to know the ins and outs of her own country, Pakistan, as well.<\/p>\n

Her work allowed her to see the need for a citizens archive of Pakistan in order to preserve and record the history as they know it. \u00a0The vision\u00a0Obaid-Chinoy helped to foster a community revolved around creating and protecting a national archive.<\/p>\n
