{"id":153,"date":"2016-06-03T06:12:26","date_gmt":"2016-06-03T06:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/?p=153"},"modified":"2016-06-03T06:12:26","modified_gmt":"2016-06-03T06:12:26","slug":"does-sexism-still-exist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/2016\/06\/03\/does-sexism-still-exist\/","title":{"rendered":"Does Sexism Still Exist?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In my last <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/2016\/05\/30\/multimodal-composition\/\">post<\/a>, I talked about the role of multimodal composition in the writing classroom. \u00a0Since then I have developed my own short film on sexism related to the Santa Clara University campus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In order to clearly share my information, I decided to break the film up into three predominate sections.\u00a0 First, sexism occurring around our country and in our world shown through a series of tweets. \u00a0Second, I wanted to acknowledge that sexism does not only exist around the country or the world, but also on our own SCU campus. \u00a0Finally, I created a section featuring examples of what we can do to change the sexism faced on our campus today. \u00a0Check out my creation below:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"920\" height=\"518\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ygYJEeRP15c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-110 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/files\/2016\/05\/249425-12298436-archive_logo_redocropped-300x56.jpg\" alt=\"249425-12298436-archive_logo_redocropped\" width=\"300\" height=\"56\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/files\/2016\/05\/249425-12298436-archive_logo_redocropped-300x56.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/files\/2016\/05\/249425-12298436-archive_logo_redocropped-768x143.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/files\/2016\/05\/249425-12298436-archive_logo_redocropped-1024x190.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/files\/2016\/05\/249425-12298436-archive_logo_redocropped-1840x341.jpg 1840w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From the very first assignment in this class on archival research, I have been focusing on one predominate theme: sexism on college campuses. \u00a0My archival research project was based on a newsletter reflecting on the addition of women to the Santa Clara University (SCU) campus 25 years after the fact. \u00a0Since then I have completed a number of projects related to the same topic. \u00a0Each assignment was some how rooted in sexism and specifically sexism on the SCU campus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-160 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/files\/2016\/06\/sexism-banner-300x139.png\" alt=\"sexism-banner\" width=\"596\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/files\/2016\/06\/sexism-banner-300x139.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/files\/2016\/06\/sexism-banner.png 560w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.emaze.com\/@AIQOTIRQ\/SEXISM\">https:\/\/www.emaze.com\/@AIQOTIRQ\/SEXISM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the academic writing, my blog has also featured several posts related to sexism. \u00a0In a way, my blog writing also helped to further my academic writing not only through process reflection, but also in idea development and improved writing technique. In class readings offered many suggestions on how to frame researched arguments. \u00a0From the readings we were offered a chance to reflect and adapt the information we read into something tangible for academic writing through blog responses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-161\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/rpendergast\/files\/2016\/06\/images-5.jpeg\" alt=\"images-5\" width=\"202\" height=\"249\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.123rf.com\/photo_13335346_wooden-building-blocks.html\">http:\/\/www.123rf.com\/photo_13335346_wooden-building-blocks.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Paramount to academic and blog writing, we were given an opportunity to share our message through a new medium of our choice. \u00a0As shown above, my chosen multimodal presentation was a short film on\u00a0the reality of sexism in the world and the SCU community. \u00a0Again, this step builds upon and works with the other two in that it took content\u00a0from the other two mediums and transformed it into something more.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In multimodal composition you are able to cater to a sp<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/media3.giphy.com\/media\/BQAk13taTaKYw\/200.gif\" width=\"372\" height=\"200\" \/>ecific audience in a way that resonates most with them. \u00a0In academic writing and even blog writing there is a sort of disconnect between the writer and the audience, where as in multimo<br \/>\ndal composition you are able to communicate in a less formal way while still communicating\u00a0an important message.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Academic writing, blog response, and multimodal composition have all woven together over the course of the last 10 weeks. \u00a0From this experience I have learned about myself, my writing, and my ability to communicate through different mediums. \u00a0I am proud of what I have accomplished to date and look forward to seeing how what I have learned from this class reveals itself in the future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/AeWoyE3ZT90YM\/giphy.gif\" width=\"717\" height=\"301\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my last post, I talked about the role of multimodal composition in the writing classroom. \u00a0Since then I have developed my own short film on sexism related to the Santa Clara University campus. &nbsp;
