Although multimodal composition seems rather odd in a\"4e900ec2720dc21cb82faccb2fda13f3\" writing classroom, it allows for information to be communicated in a\u00a0way that transcends beyond<\/strong> the classroom. \u00a0Prior to this class, all but one of my English classes
\nhas culminated in a final assignment related to\u00a0a research or final paper. \u00a0Therefore, when we were told our final assignment would be a multimodal composition I was happily surprised<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The purpose of a multimodal composition is to communicate<\/strong> an idea or a message to a targeted audience. \u00a0Depending on who your audience may be, you have to decide what makes the most sense<\/strong> for them. \u00a0For example, a group of college students isn’t going to read a 10 page paper for ‘funsies.’ \u00a0It would be better suited for them to view\u00a0a short film (under 2 minutes) or a single image to understand\u00a0the message.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For a group of senior citizens, a poster featuring step by step instructions might be the best option. \u00a0For a group of school children it may be a cartoon. \u00a0And for a group of middle-aged people perhaps a political cartoon?<\/p>\n

Basically, you have to pick your audience and identify the best way to communicate your message to that group.<\/p>\n

In addition to catering to a specific demographic, you are given an opportunity to tap into your creative<\/strong> side. \u00a0At times, it can be challenging to put an idea into words. \u00a0It may be easier to express<\/strong> it through an image, video, or political cartoon. \u00a0This project gives you\u00a0the opportunity to express yourself in a way that is more<\/strong> than just another English paper.<\/p>\n

Additionally, in the digital age we live in, it is necessary<\/strong> to not only have reading and writing skills, but also digital programming skills<\/strong>. \u00a0Knowing how to use Adobe InDesign, iMovie, Excel, etc. is invaluable<\/strong> in school and as we progress to the workplace. \u00a0This assignment allows for you\u00a0to explore and play with different programming without fear of repercussion or falling short. \u00a0Sure you\u00a0receive a grade at the end, but it isn’t the big sales pitch for an up and coming international firm. \u00a0Rather, it is an opportunity<\/strong> for growth.<\/p>\n
