This cyberculture consists of all different types of people, from college kids looking for something to cook, to stay at home moms and dads that have old family recipes, to professional cooks and chefs. I have been looking at these comments and trying to get to know the people from what they say and how they react to other peoples posts. I have yet to come across any really mean spirited people. Mostly everyone is kind and just talks about the food or jokes about how their diets are not working out because of the food that’s one these sites. Everyone on the site is just interested in showing off their culinary skills and helping other people improve their skills. People post pictures of their food to show off their culinary skills as long as their artistic skills because a lot of serious cooks consider cooking to be an artform. Examples like this animal made out of rice, eggs and cheese make food more visably enjoyable.
There are also other sites within Reddit like AskCulinary which is a site where professional Chefs take the time out of their days to answer questions that other people trying to cook have. None of these chefs belittle anyone or call them stupid if they have a “dumb question” but instead help them, sometimes in very great detail, with whatever their questions may be. I picture most of these people asking the questions as amateur cooks at home that are just looking for help. One of the most discussed question on the site is whether or not MSG is bad for you. And professional cooks try to help help the question to the best of their knowledge. I believe that the overall food subreddit is full of people just looking for new recipes to try cooking. Everyone gets bored of the same foods over and over, so they look online or in cookbooks for new things to cook. Having this internet culture makes that a lot easier and allows you to get help when it’s needed. I messaged a few very active people and hopefully they will reply so I can talk with them and ask them a few questions about the community that they obviously love.
