{"id":17,"date":"2012-09-24T14:02:38","date_gmt":"2012-09-24T21:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/nick\/?p=17"},"modified":"2012-09-24T14:20:17","modified_gmt":"2012-09-24T21:20:17","slug":"remix-by-lawrence-lessig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/nick\/2012\/09\/24\/remix-by-lawrence-lessig\/","title":{"rendered":"Remix by Lawrence Lessig"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lawrence Lessig is an author of several books discussing copyright law and a professor from Harvard University. \u00a0In\u00a0<em><strong>Remix: Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy,\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><strong><\/strong>Lessig discusses copyright laws and how current technology has changed the way these laws should work.<\/p>\n<p>Lessig breaks our society into two cultures &#8211;Read-Only and Read\/Write. \u00a0 The first group, Read-Only, resembles the model created by iTunes. \u00a0This model keeps the digital rights to the creator and requires the music to be purchased. \u00a0The second group, Read\/Write, describes people that remix works. \u00a0Lessig mentions bloggers as large proponents of this culture. \u00a0The issue with our current state is that the majority of people are Read-Only. \u00a0In order to be literate, someone must be able to read and write. \u00a0Because our culture and copyright laws are so outdated, we are headed to a time when users become more and more illiterate with less emphasis on &#8220;creating&#8221;. \u00a0I found \u00a0a TED talk with Lessig where he further describes his points.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Larry Lessig: TED Talk\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/larry_lessig_says_the_law_is_strangling_creativity.html\" target=\"_blank\">Larry Lessig: TED Talk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lawrence Lessig is an author of several books discussing copyright law and a professor from Harvard University. \u00a0In\u00a0Remix: Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy,\u00a0Lessig discusses copyright laws and how current technology has changed the way these laws should work.
