The 90’s called……

When it comes to my own projects, I am very critical of myself. Before going into this class I had zero knowledge on how to build webpage’s and it shows. In my first hypertext on Burning Man, I decided to write about my experiences at Burning Man and why other people should try and go out at least once. Since this was my first every hypertext, it took me a long time to get the hang of the programs in order to design. I was having tons of problems but I would just keep trying different things until something finally worked.

The podcast hypertext was the most work. Have to pick a public spot and at the same time have issue that needs to be dealt with was a very hard task. I ended up going all the way out to Gilroy Hot Springs which was a good idea because most have never heard about it. The transcript was the biggest pain in the ass because you have to listen to your own voice over and over in order to hear everything. By time I was done I had about 2000 words and still another 8 minutes left, so I cut the rest out because it was repetitive.

I never have a problem writing something, my problem is procrastination. I did not change my writing in any way, besides adding in a strong voice because after all, it is my blog and my projects. When I go to update or edit my hypertext the only thing I want to work on is formatting and the overall layout and design of the page. My writing is fine but my design is outdated and very 90’s looking. I wish we spent more time learning current methods of design. Knowing that my name is on these hypertexts is kind of embarrassing because of the ghetto webpage that supports it, but I guess we all have to start something. Honestly though, the 90’s are calling and they want my webpage’s back…..

Internet Activism

When it comes to the world we live in, more and more it is turning into a police start. Slowly our natural rights are being taken away and replaced with useless laws enforced by a stale and stagnant government who has lost sight of what the people need to survive. The US government has been using fear to confidence people that the government has the best interest of the people. This is why our government goes and completely wastes over 7 billion dollars on uneducated TSA agents.

Yesterday, a video surfaced and went viral on how to trick TSA agents and get anything past the newly installed body scanners. These body scanners are illegal in Europe because of the radiation the machine emits and privacy laws it violates. For some reason the US has decided to throw all our rights away and let an uneducated bunch of asshats (excuse my French) run our airport security. I know I feel safer!

Even though we live in the great and awesomely free United States of America, the TSA and supporting government agencies have warned and threatened news agencies; telling them not to cover the story and downplay the video. In my previous posts I mention that major media is in the pocket of whoever is supplying the money, this just shows that like Occupy, the gulf oil spill and Climate Change; the government can enforce how far our freedoms extend and influence news stories to spin and misinform the reader.  This is nothing new but with technology and the internet community coming together it is creating a whole new kind of activism, one where everyone, anywhere can participate and help spread global news and bring light to global issues. Internet activism is an important voice that needs to be heard and protected because in the end; they can stop some of us but not all of us.

The Joys of Podcasting

When I first arrived at the Gilroy Hot Springs, to do my podcast project; I had no idea how awkward at first it would be but also how easily I adapted to talking to myself. I guess I am a natural! I was really surprised on how easy everything came out and how I was able to do 22min worth of recording. In the end I decided to cut the last 10 minutes just because to me it seemed like I was repeating myself. With my podcast I wanted to keep it simple, so I used the music that we got in class and cut out everything I did not like. I faded the music in and out during the beginning and end of the song to give it a nice transition and flowed from start to finish.

The biggest pain in the ass was the transcript. After 2000 words and a few hours of listening to myself over and over and over and over and over and over and…..you get my point. I am glad I was able to cut out the last 10minutes of my podcast because that transcript would have been ridiculous. All and all the hardest part is getting the technology to work and to build and design web pages around the project. In the end all I wished was more time and training in web design so I could actually build a proper web site, but I do enjoy my 90’s theme.
