What do you See?
It is very rare that you see women on ESPN. For anyone who doesn’t know what ESPN is, it is Entertainment and Sports programming network. It has a variety of male televised sporting events and a lot of commentating shows about sports. So if it is an entertainment and sports network, why is the programming mostly male dominated? Are women’s sports not as important to show on television as men’s sports? Why does there have to be a separate television show for men and women?
Women Represent
Sports networks should want to show off women on men television and in a positive way, not like on normal television where women aren’t always portrayed to be reputable. Women and women athletes are strong and can succeed in sports just like men and also could try and take over sports television programming. As much as men are talked about on ESPN I wonder why women are not as talked about and why women’s sports and Entertainment Networking isn’t just as big as ESPN. I do acknowledge that women do have their own network but it is not as popular as ESPN.
Why?
It has been said that women’s sports won’t capture the heart of male sports fans and I will never understand that. Who said that, a man? Why do we need a male audience to watch women sports? I think the reason so many women watch male sports is because sometimes it is the only thing on!
The Influence
With the booming influence women athletes are having on younger generation of women, I guarantee plenty of women will watch women sports. It would draw in viewers of more young women to get the word out and inspire other women to “Dream Big, Aim High”! I found this positive expression when I was told about an amazing network just for women called WSEN. It stands for Women’s Sports and Entertainment Network. It highlights women athletes from all types of sports and honors women and their accomplishments, just like men. You should check it out and spread the word of women in sports!
