Blog Revision
Writing an academic essay and then turning it into a blog is harder than it looks. When you are taught a certain style in school, you practice for perfection. Other than free writing and academic essays, most students are not taught other formats and styles of writing. Especially converting one style to the next you tend to come across different rules, different ways of communicating, and what your writing means coming from another look. Although it may be a tough transition, there are many examples and helpful hits of other bloggers and their experiences to help make the transition.
Addressing and communicating
A academic paper is more of addressing the topic where a blog is more communicating. Within an academic paper there is a lot of research and facts being stated. A blog on the other hand encourages others opinion and deals with a more personal view of a paper. The influence of an academic paper provides informed, well-developed opinions on subjects relevant to the website. Where a blog consists of a recount a news story or offers other quick takes on a topic. An academic paper is a researched argument that engages the reader with pathos, logos, ethos , and kiaros. A blog is a research of interest with added opinion and written for the audience to hear. A academic paper provides you the opportunity to target readers looking for more complete and detailed information. Blogs are more shareable and may suit the needs of continuous visitors. In other words, many people usually continuously read a blog and follow a blog like social media account, a academic paper is something you look at once to get points of an argument and never seem to visit again. A academic paper shows a broad overview of the paper where a blog zones into just one topic. I know what you’re thinking, so many rules and so many guidelines.
The Rules and Guidelines
There are different set of rules and guidelines for both sets of papers, length, style and tone. A blog portrays a more lean back and talk to a friend type of tone. An academic paper is more of a formal polite sense of tone to engage the highest scholar. In many ways an academic paper is like going into a interview to get a job, being on your best behavior using “Big words” to sound educated and showing off how intelligent you can be. A blog is like a nonchalant tone just like talking out loud to someone and putting it on paper. While I was writing this blog I felt as if I was telling a storey. When I write an academic paper I feel like I am trying to sell myself and my argument. A blog post doesn’t necessarily need to be pages long more like paragraphs long, just as long as you get your point across. Where a academic paper needs pages long of information and research to back up the point they are trying to make. Not to say that a blog doesn’t need to research and provide evidence when they state their view, it just isn’t stated and explained why they used this evidence. But on the other hand they both cite the information of where it came. A blog needs to cite the research so that others can follow and get a visual of why they chose this to be more persuasive. A academic paper cites their research to be more credible. A blog is usually written in first person and an article os written in third person hits the more personal sides to a blog. Some of these guidelines may be hard to transition but just think of it as another view of your paper.
How I Made The Transfer
So when transferring my paper to a blog I first highlighted all the facts on my academic paper giving me a outline and formal side to my paper. Then on my blog draft I added my own personal experience and thoughts of my paper to give it a informal outlook. As I then went back and looked at the points I made and the meta commentary I used, then I transferred them into my blog draft. I also talked in the tone as if I was talking to my roommate and had to fix a couple vocabulary words to make them informal and more my slang. As the points I made I wanted to sound formal I used my own language and tone to formulate my opinion. It was sorta difficult to provide social media within the blog but I really enjoyed it because someone it really brings fun to the blog. Instead of a boring paper with a bunch of words. I also looked up many websites and pictures to cite. These points helped me back up my research and allowed my followers to be on the same page as I am when i was writing this blog. In the end I allowed a few people to revise and allow myself to clean and polish my informal blog. Then I made the page more my style.
In The End
As I stated that there are many rules to follow and a lot to translate from an academic paper to a blog. I really enjoyed writing in a less formal style of writing because I could use first person and really get my ideas out without having to sound academic. I learned a new way to reach the audience and care for a visual appearance.Through this assignment I really felt it was very enjoyable. As writing is not really my thing, I found a new way I could communicate my writing through the world without having a really hard time. I do take into consideration that I was never taught anything other than academic writing and it was a struggle. But I did have help looking at other blogs and tips on blogging.
