The History of the Media Wheel 2012

The Media Wheel 2012

The Media Wheel 2012 is a collaborative product that was first presented at the NMC Conference in 2009 by Hedberg & Larson and inspired from D. Laurillard’s, the Pedagogical Challenges to Collaborative Technologies

With permission to “appropriate” and modify, I added the Social Media  piece to the pie and have modified the language to make it more accessible to faculty, as well as done some re-arrangement of the information and updated the technologies.

We have been using it in our Faculty training after I first modified it, since 2009, and have continued to tweak the tool just about every year so that it can be more accessible to the faculty.  During our 2 week workshop, as we present many technologies and how to design a student learning experience that is meaningful and aligned to their learning outcomes, faculty will use the wheel as a reference.  As we cover the technologies and the examples of their use, we also refer to the Media Wheel to help them make sense of the technologies and how they can be used to enhance student learning outcomes.  Faculty will  also refer to the wheel as they select possible tools or consider how the tool may fit their assignment.

Please feel free to use, adapt and modify as you wish, just share with us the updates so we can take advantage of the updated and improved tool!

I welcome your comments and suggestions, so please leave your comments, suggestions and ideas!

Thank you to those who attended my presentation!  You were terrific!
