{"id":147,"date":"2017-04-06T22:28:57","date_gmt":"2017-04-06T22:28:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/mmason17\/?p=147"},"modified":"2017-06-04T00:47:41","modified_gmt":"2017-06-04T00:47:41","slug":"my-past-research-projects-and-my-takeaways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/mmason17\/2017\/04\/06\/my-past-research-projects-and-my-takeaways\/","title":{"rendered":"My Past Research Projects and My Takeaways"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After writing my last post about my research process, I started thinking about my past research projects specifically the research project I completed last quarter. \u00a0I took a Child Studies course called Information Literacy which teaches us the best ways to conduct research and write a well-round research paper. \u00a0In this course, we choose a topic and spent the entire quarter researching that topic and finishing with creating a website about our topic.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_148\" style=\"width: 243px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-148\" class=\"wp-image-148 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/mmason17\/files\/2017\/04\/tenor.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"131\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-148\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: tenor.co<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I choose to write about Common Core and whether or not teachers are\u00a0being properly supported after the transition. \u00a0We began by writing why we wanted to research a certain topic and we were encouraged to think broadly by also have a more narrowed research question in mind. \u00a0Once we picked a topic, we met with a librarian, so we could begin to find credible sources in the library databases. \u00a0Following my meeting with the librarian, I conducted my own research using the library databases and advanced Google searches. \u00a0Every time I found an important or useful article, I would save it using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zotero.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zotero<\/a> which is an application that helps you organize your articles. \u00a0Once we\u00a0had enough information, we were instructed to annotate our articles which really helped when it came to finding quotes and evidence. \u00a0Next, we practiced synthesizing which is when we put multiple articles or authors into conversation with one another. \u00a0We practiced by using our own articles which helped us prepare for when we actually wrote our paper. \u00a0Next, we turn in a rough draft, so we could get feedback from our teacher. \u00a0One huge part of the class was peer review. \u00a0In fact, we have peer review teams specifically for our revision process. \u00a0We discussed many revision tips;
