BUT we are going to be talking about my adventures of researching again.\u00a0 As much as I hate to annoy you with this again, I think I just have a few bones to pick with some so called \u201cexperts\u201d on the topic of learning approaches.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/Fjr6v88OPk7U4\/giphy.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/Fjr6v88OPk7U4\/giphy.gif\" width=\"271\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some educators believe the undergraduate students do not value archival materials nearly enough to realize the positive effect it will have on their research.\u00a0 For example, in the article, \u201cIntroducing Undergraduate Students to Archives and Special Cases,\u201d Greg claims that \u201cundergraduate students seldom utilize primary source materials located in departments of archives and special collections, primarily due to lack of understanding of what an archive has to offer and how it is used.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So in other words, he is basically saying students don&#8217;t know what to do with archives because they are just a bunch of crybabies.\u00a0 And honestly, I think he is a drama queen because he is seriously over exaggerating to claim: the students do not use archival sources because they do not know anything.\u00a0 So, I assume that he believes students, as a whole, are incapable of archival research.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 346px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/k4a2GQJQlircI\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"336\" height=\"189\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">(@Greg)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But you know what, he is WRONG.\u00a0 He is literally neglecting to consider that some students do have the skills necessary for archival research, yet they might choose not to utilize archives\u2026not many research projects are going to require or need archival information.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/d801yIqYpUCQ0\/giphy.gif\" width=\"300\" height=\"132\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you already know, I was introduced to archives for the sole purpose of completing an archival research paper; or at least that was my initial assumption.\u00a0 Because archival research is a form of research that is uncommon as it provides information about a specific place, institution, or group of people, educators should tailor their instructions so that all students will benefit rather than just assuming students are incompetent regarding archival research skills.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/bEvQzecJohmOQ\/giphy.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/bEvQzecJohmOQ\/giphy.gif\" width=\"322\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I learned about Santa Clara University\u2019s archives, I was given background information as to what an archive is and how to go about my research.\u00a0 This was helpful as my classmates and I were not completely clueless when we physically entered SCU\u2019s archive.\u00a0 Even though I had never been in an archive before, I wasn&#8217;t a crybaby and let my uncertainties negatively affect my experience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/02\/a4\/33\/02a433b0eafd33bdc6bb1fce1bc5891e.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/02\/a4\/33\/02a433b0eafd33bdc6bb1fce1bc5891e.jpg\" width=\"215\" height=\"215\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So not to be cocky, but for all y&#8217;all who are confident in your knowledge yet do not stand up for yourselves\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/n02dH2yBWJ6QU\/giphy.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/n02dH2yBWJ6QU\/giphy.gif\" width=\"500\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Are you ready kids? \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Aye aye captain.
