{"id":261,"date":"2017-05-15T05:58:19","date_gmt":"2017-05-15T05:58:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/mkraus\/?p=261"},"modified":"2017-05-15T05:58:19","modified_gmt":"2017-05-15T05:58:19","slug":"lets-ride","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/mkraus\/2017\/05\/15\/lets-ride\/","title":{"rendered":"Let&#8217;s ride"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>\u201cWhat do you want to do when you grow up?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is your intended major?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy did you choose SCU if you don&#8217;t know what you want to do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere do you see yourself in ten years?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Every time I hear these questions, I cannot help but cringe a little.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/pYI1hSqUdcBiw\/giphy.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/pYI1hSqUdcBiw\/giphy.gif\" width=\"376\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Being undeclared is overwhelming as it is because you are trying to figure out what you are going to do, but it is even harder when you feel as though you are in a program where you do not belong. This was my issue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/26gJADMQVmYV4iCVa\/giphy.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/26gJADMQVmYV4iCVa\/giphy.gif\" width=\"480\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When applying to SCU as a senior in high school, I had absolutely NO idea what I wanted to study.\u00a0 I decided to apply to be in the College of Arts and Sciences because there is the most options of majors.\u00a0 However, as I was registering for classes during orientation I started thinking to myself, <i>what am I doing in the College of Arts and Sciences?\u00a0 <\/i>I always had it in the back of my head that I would be interested in possibly pursuing Marketing, but I could not just easily change to the Leavey School of Business (LSB).<\/p>\n<p>After researching information on LSB, I found that the odds were not in my favor to internally transfer schools, and that I would apply Spring Quarter of my first year at SCU.\u00a0 So that is exactly what I worked to do this year.\u00a0 I worked as hard as I possibly could in all my classes to make sure my GPA could be the best it possibly could; however, I did not expect this to be the only thing to strive for, as I researched what to do incase I did not successfully transfer.<\/p>\n<p>I did a little research and found that I had other options if I stayed in the College of A&amp;S.\u00a0 I learned that SCU has two competitive business fraternities, so I rushed one just to see what it was like.\u00a0 Luckily, I ended up really enjoying it and also got the opportunity to pledge it last quarter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/profile_images\/504035253975937024\/o5NYnK7b.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-262 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/mkraus\/files\/2017\/05\/o5NYnK7b.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/mkraus\/files\/2017\/05\/o5NYnK7b.png 500w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/mkraus\/files\/2017\/05\/o5NYnK7b-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/mkraus\/files\/2017\/05\/o5NYnK7b-300x300.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to that, I found I could declare as a Communication major and a Retail Studies minor, and I would get a very similar education as I would if I were a Marketing major.\u00a0 This is all well and good, but from my research I found that I wanted to be in the business school even more than ever before.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I can obtain the communication skills I would need in the College of A&amp;S, but the technical and critical thinking aspects of business can only be obtained from the LSB. As an actual\u00a0 marketing major, I will obtain a solid foundation in business processes such as budgeting, generating and interpreting analytical reports, buying strategies, and industry-specific techniques, which is not only what I want to learn, but what I need to learn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/tN1lvnT4M6nte\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media1.giphy.com\/media\/tN1lvnT4M6nte\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"I Need It Please GIF - Find &amp; Share on GIPHY\" width=\"205\" height=\"234\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From researching this, I was able to form a very compelling argument for myself as to why I would love to be in the LSB because\u2026<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dora the Explorer- We Did It\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SBCw4_XgouA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I DID IT!!
