Long, Richard A., and Joe Nash. The Black Tradition in American Dance. New York: Rizzoli, 1989. Print.
This book gave me information on the origins of the Cakewalk and specific performances that consisted of the Cakewalk. It also talked about how significant the dance was internationally. There was also a good amount of information on the basic timeline of the Cakewalk dance throughout history.
DeFrantz, Thomas. Dancing Many Drums: Excavations in African American Dance. Madison, WI: University of Wisconsin, 2002. Print.
I used the least information from this book. It had background of the Cakewalk in relation to the Whitman sisters. Basically, there was much information on the Whitman sisters in general, but not on the Cakewalk.
“Jass.com: Bert Williams & George Walker.” – Online Universities. N.p., n.d. Web. 03 Mar. 2014.
This website was useful because it provided me with general and specific information on the Cakewalk regarding Bert Williams and George Walker.
“The WHITMAN SISTERS.” The Whitman Sisters. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Mar. 2014.
This website talked about all four Whitman sisters. However, I only talked about Alice Whitman because she was the only one with significant Cakewalk information. Basically, Alice had a lot to do with the Cakewalk and was considered a Queen when is came to the dance.
