Josephine Baker served in World War II in various ways.
She performed for troops, to help keep morale up.
Josephine was a sub-lieutenant in the Women’s Auxiliary Airforce of France.
Josephine also served the French military intelligence as an “honorary correspondent”.
Josephine used her celebrity to gather information from important people.
She would attend parties where the leaders of foreign countries were present and gain information that way without anyone suspecting her due to her fame.
Josephine could travel through airports with little to no difficulty, again due to her celebrity.
She carried secret messages written in invisible ink on the back of her sheet music.
She also pinned secret notes to the inside of her undergarments, again counting on her fame to shield her from a strip search.
For her service Josephine was awarded the Croix de Guerre (Military Cross) and the Rosette de la Résistance (Medal of the Resistance).
Josephine was also named a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur for her work.

Wow! What a remarkable woman to have used her talents to aid her country! Very informative website!
