Starting this Friday (if we have volunteers for Friday), we will have 1 or 2 reading leaders for each reading assignment due. Reading leaders are responsible for making a 2-page (1 dbl-sided sheet) handout to distribute to everyone in class. The first page of the handout will list the major points of the reading(s). The backside will contain a reflection that you write about the reading(s) that relates it to discussions, texts we’ve read, or ideas we’re discussing. Please include at least 2 open-ended questions for discussion that are specifically about the reading. These questions can interrogate specifics of plot or language, connect the text to our class discussions or readings, or inquire about a concept in the reading that you may not have understand at first pass. Leaders are responsible for all of the texts for that day. In this way, with our handouts and reflections, we are gathering collaboratively-written notes on all of our readings for the term and helping each other master the content of the course. They will be especially helpful for reading quizzes and the dialogical reflection essay we’ll write at the end of the course.

Reading leaders do not have to prepare a special presentation for class; your handout alone will do. I will ask leaders to present the main ideas of the reading to the class, talk about your reflection, and also lob your questions about the reading. Goal: 10 minutes of class time for leader(s) per class.
