According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary<\/a>, the definition of culture is ” the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Internet culture is simply a community that does just that: share their values, goals, and attitudes online. Besides this obvious fact, an Internet culture allows people of each individual Internet community to create themselves into whomever they want to be. This is the main difference between \u201creal life\u201d culture versus an Internet culture.<\/p>\n

Internet cultures are unique in the sense that one isn\u2019t judged or criticized for their physical appearance, but rather have the opportunity to \u201ccreate\u201d an image they want people to see. They have the opportunity to escape reality and establish the (virtual) world they wish to live in.<\/p>\n

Culture is something that is learned<\/em> and depends on where you live, who raises you, and what ways you the culture is displayed (food, attire, etc). Internet culture and communities, on the other hand, plays the role of teacher<\/em>: these cultures, working together, educate their members and influence diversity among the selected community.<\/p>\n

This is the very reason that WritersCafe.org (WC) constitutes as an Internet culture: not only because it resides online, but also because it has a distinct community of people who utilize the Internet to share their values, goals and attitudes about writing. This community not only shares a passion for writing poetry, short stories, novels, but also shares<\/em> these literary works amongst themselves.<\/p>\n
