Hello all, my name is Kelly and I am a freshman at Santa Clara University. This year for my English course I was required to make a blog where I could voice my opinions on modern day education. I know what you’re thinking, where’s the interest in that right? But through my research I’ve discovered our education system, which I often take for granted, still has some deeply-rooted controversial issues that need to be addressed. My hope, as a female student and low-key feminist, is to stress throughout this blog that America’s educational and workforce systems still aren’t providing men and women with equal opportunity when it comes to intellectual success.
Often times I believe feminists are viewed in a negative light. I myself, coming from the conservative suburbs of Austin, Texas, often associated strong feminists with obnoxious rants and too much entitlement. It wasn’t until I really started analyzing society, that I realized feminism is actually extremely legit and in fact a necessary part of achieving female success. Even today, in a time where women have just as much access to education as men, too many girls feel the need to downplay their IQ and by default lack the motivation to excel in a school or work setting.
This blog is a way for me to share with you all of my own inputs on how we can fix our education system to make it both more encouraging for girls and efficient in creating successful female entrepreneurs. As a former fashion and lifestyle blogger, I hope to make my posts engaging as well as informative by incorporating many of my own experiences and how they play into this topic.
To finish up I’d like to give you all a little more insight on me. I’m 19 years old and like I mentioned earlier I’m from Austin, Texas. I’ve loved to write from a young age and find that it truly is the best way to express oneself. I’m excited to get the chance to express my opinions on a topic that can hopefully make a difference in society and would love to see this spark an interest in others as well!
Please feel free to comment or give me your insights on my post at khonts@scu.edu
