{"id":65,"date":"2012-03-25T19:46:38","date_gmt":"2012-03-26T02:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/katied\/?p=65"},"modified":"2012-03-25T19:46:53","modified_gmt":"2012-03-26T02:46:53","slug":"a-youtube-for-a-facebook-the-new-eye-for-an-eye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/katied\/2012\/03\/25\/a-youtube-for-a-facebook-the-new-eye-for-an-eye\/","title":{"rendered":"A Youtube for a Facebook: the new eye for an eye"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Internet has changed everything.\u00a0 The other day my daughter was asking me about how someone got pregnant, and I managed to avoid the question, because, well, I had not prepared myself to have the birds and the bee\u2019s speech and I needed more time.\u00a0 That night I hopped online and watched YouTube videos of people giving the birds and the bee\u2019s speech so that I could feel better prepared the next time she asked me about something like that.\u00a0 But the Internet is full of horrible parenting advice as well.<\/p>\n<p>Have you seen the video of the dad shooting holes into his daughter\u2019s laptop?\u00a0 <a title=\"Facebook parenting: for the troubled teen\" href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/kl1ujzRidmU\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook parenting: for the troubled teen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Facebook Parenting: For the troubled teen.\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kl1ujzRidmU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It exploded on Facebook about a month ago (then died out, as most one hit wonders do).\u00a0 Nonetheless, it has been sitting in the back of my mind for a while now.\u00a0 All of my friends who posted the video glorified this dad; saying that he was showing tough love and more parents should be like him.\u00a0 I could not disagree more.\u00a0 This dad is an example of why our youth do not respect their parents.\u00a0 How can he do exactly what he is scolding his daughter for doing and expect her to respect him for it?\u00a0 He is upset because she posted a Facebook post about what a terrible parent he is, so his response is to make a YouTube video about what a terrible daughter she is, and he uses a gun to prove his point.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t make sense to me at all.\u00a0 I agree that parents need to put their foot down with their children, and that there are many children who are too spoiled these days, but I simply do not believe that this dad is amazing.\u00a0 I think he is a hothead and immature and should not use the Internet to punish his child.\u00a0 I am a firm believer in an eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind.<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested, here is an interesting article \u00a0entitled \u201c<a title=\"Father Shoots Daughter's Laptop: Now What?\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/lisa-belkin\/father-shoots-laptop_b_1267850.html\" target=\"_blank\">Father Shoots Daughter&#8217;s Laptop: Now What?<\/a>\u201d\u00a0 that critiques this dad\u2019s parenting style.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Internet has changed everything.\u00a0 The other day my daughter was asking me about how someone got pregnant, and I managed to avoid the question, because, well, I had not prepared myself to have the birds and the bee\u2019s speech &hellip;
