{"id":34,"date":"2012-02-17T12:18:48","date_gmt":"2012-02-17T20:18:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/katied\/?p=34"},"modified":"2012-02-17T12:18:48","modified_gmt":"2012-02-17T20:18:48","slug":"digital-religion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/katied\/2012\/02\/17\/digital-religion\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital religion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a homeless man who walks around Campbell with a sign that says \u201cMillions of dollars are wasted on names like Mary and Jesus.\u201d At first I thought this man was an atheist, but the more I think about his sign, the more I think that I was wrong about my initial assumption.\u00a0 What this man is really saying is that people spend so much money on things that should be free (namely, religion).\u00a0 Religion, salvation, the love of Jesus are supposed to be free.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I read <a title=\"5 social media trends that are reshaping religion \" href=\"http:\/\/www.religiondispatches.org\/archive\/culture\/5463\/five_social_media_trends_that_are_reshaping_religion\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cFive Social Media Trends that are Reshaping Religion\u201d<\/a> by Elizabeth Drescher, the author of <em>Tweet If You <\/em>\u2665<em> Jesus: Practicing Church in the Digital Reformation<\/em> and professor at Santa Clara University.\u00a0 In her article, she talks about how social media has changed religion, and how it can be a lot more accessible now.\u00a0 While I agree that there are many ways that religion can be enhanced with new technologies and social media, I fear that religion will lose its humanity if it is turned too digital.\u00a0 One of my favorite things about the church is the sense of family.
