As an 18 year old college student I’m often the first person my parents ask if they have a question about technology. Whether it’s something as simple as why their computer won’t play the video they want to watch, or as complex as how to transfer music from iTunes to an Android phone, I’m expected to know what to do. Usually I do a good job, but there are times where I have genuinely no idea. In these moments, I can see how fast technological advances are occurring around me. Right now I’m able to quickly pick up the new information and figure out why it worked, keeping me up to date with the developments. However, I can tell that there will be a time where the developments are happening at such a speed that I can no longer keep up. This isn’t to say that the developments are bad, it’s just that there are so many ways technology can help us that it seems inevitable that in a few years, we won’t be able to keep up with all of them. In this blog, I’ll provide a students perspective on the ways technological change is impacting college education and my time within the Santa Clara University bubble.
