Still don’t know if I transformed my essay into a good blog post, but atleast I did do it and feel pretty good about it. Honestly turing an argumentative essay into a blog post was not too difficult for me. I am able to put what I am thinking in my mind on paper relatively easily. But what the hardest part of this was, was turning something that is in formal writing first into, something almost “informal”.

If I were to try and write this in the beginning, without doing the formal writing first, I would have been able to write 5 whole pages about this with ease. But since I had to turn sophisticated claims into more of “light” kind of writing, finding the right words to use was difficult.

The main way I found myself writing this post was that I was acting like the audience was myself. I consider myself a pretty general student and person in the educational world. So writing a blog post about an educational topic I was attempting to make it an easy read and something that one would be interested in (which I hope you were).

Source: Wikimedia

I would start each paragraph with writing my personal opinion about what I was discussing. The main difference of formal writing and blog writing is that one’s personal opinion is a lot more relevant. So I wrote what my personal opinion was and then went back to my essay to see what claims and evidence I used, and then integrated them into my writing. This allowed me to put more of a voice to my writing which was not included in my essay.

One thing that I struggled with was and still is addressing you guys, the audience I am trying to talk to. I have been so used to just writing to a teacher or about a topic and not to someone. Only emails and texting have been when I am writing to someone else. But this was different than anything I have done before. I was writing about something to someone else. It brings two types of writing into one, which is where I found it the most difficult.

Source: Staticflickr

Although this assignment was hard to do, I did fairly enjoy it. I believe I would enjoy it more if I was able to just do a blog post on an educational topic before doing a formal piece of writing. Obviously that was the point of the assignment, was to create some sort of difficulty in using a different voice when trying to make the same point. I am not saying I am going to go around and continue writing blogs(sorry if you actually wanted me too…) but I would enjoy doing this for assignment with more freedom.

Well, I did it.
