Hello and welcome to my blog, my name is Jake MacNichols I am currently attending Santa Clara University, and I have created this blog for an english class here at school. I am a student athlete and play on the baseball team here at Santa Clara. I grew up in Napa, California. Along with baseball and my studies, other things i enjoy to do, is Snowboarding, fishing, golfing and spending time with family and friends.
This question has been asked by this coming generation from the beginning of all these new advances in tech. I personally believe that technology is harming the general public a lot more than it is helping us. Especially with the recent outbreak of social media, the amount of distraction that these outlets create is insane. I have a goal to cause a movement among the current young generation with this blog, ages from about 12-25, that this will help people realize that social media is a waste of time and has little benefits compared to the negatives.
Why is everybody so interested to find out what other people are doing? We must post what we are doing to try and show off how much fun we are having without these people who are looking at our activities on twitter and Instagram. It causes jealousy, and makes a person feel like they are not doing t0o much with their lives. I know this because I’ve been there, and I know that you all have been there too.
Now I know some of you might say, well I like to see what all my old friends are doing. Or that people, friends and family, love to see what I am now doing with my life. As this might be true, the fact of the matter is that people still get jealous and upset that they aren’t doing all the fun things that others are doing. And when people feel this way it’s wasted negative energy that could have been used on something more productive.
Don’t get me wrong, I do believe that there are benefits to technology, but I honestly believe that our generation just does not utilize them for the correct uses enough to consider beneficial.
Tech helps us get through college, whether that is using it to help up positively or use it to cheat, it helps us get through college… Everybody uses it differently, the how you use it is what makes the difference.
