{"id":80,"date":"2016-04-21T19:51:08","date_gmt":"2016-04-21T19:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ivannaq\/?p=80"},"modified":"2016-04-21T19:51:08","modified_gmt":"2016-04-21T19:51:08","slug":"sources-and-stuff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ivannaq\/2016\/04\/21\/sources-and-stuff\/","title":{"rendered":"Sources and Stuff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sources and I have an interesting relationship. \u00a0I&#8217;m still not really sure how I feel about all the work that I put into finding them, but they definitely do help me on my papers. \u00a0For class, we had to read the article,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jstor.org\/stable\/377413?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents\">Helping Students Use Textual Sources Persuasively<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>by Margaret Kantz that was all about sources. \u00a0As a result, I did not really\u00a0enjoy reading this article, but my professor got me a little bit more excited about it! \u00a0She stressed at the beginning of class that this was one of her favorite articles ever, which immediately caught my interest and made\u00a0rethink its\u00a0importance.<\/p>\n<p>This article helped me realize that when first researching, the first article that I find is probably not going to be the best one.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-81 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ivannaq\/files\/2016\/04\/Screen-Shot-2016-04-21-at-9.54.28-AM-300x149.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2016-04-21 at 9.54.28 AM\" width=\"338\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ivannaq\/files\/2016\/04\/Screen-Shot-2016-04-21-at-9.54.28-AM-300x149.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ivannaq\/files\/2016\/04\/Screen-Shot-2016-04-21-at-9.54.28-AM-768x382.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ivannaq\/files\/2016\/04\/Screen-Shot-2016-04-21-at-9.54.28-AM.png 942w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 338px) 100vw, 338px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Not everything on the internet credible, so I can&#8217;t believe the first thing that I see\/first article that I read. \u00a0However, I\u00a0can probably\u00a0use these kinds of articles\u00a0as background information, but I probably shouldn&#8217;t\u00a0include it in my paper as my main source.<\/p>\n<p>The article also explains how easy it is to replicate what we read, and that is very true. \u00a0I tend to adopt the voice or form of whatever I am getting my sources from because that is what I am basing my paper on. \u00a0As a result, almost all of my papers are in a narrative form. \u00a0My my final research paper however,\u00a0<em>will not\u00a0<\/em>be in narrative form. \u00a0This is because the background of my research process does <em>not<\/em> matter to the reader, so there is no need for me to narrate a story of that to them.\u00a0 So, I need to turn away from this\u00a0sort of copycat form, and start to be little more original and formal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i.giphy.com\/isW4sLhHD8PzG.gif\" width=\"375\" height=\"220\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Going off of the theme of originality, Kantz encouraged us to be creative. \u00a0Even though finding sources and writing research papers can seem to be very formal and structured with no room for creativity, this is not the case. \u00a0It is up to me as a writer to find a way to build original arguments based on the resources that I find, and do so in an interesting way. \u00a0I have to think of this paper as not as a rehash of the available material, but rather, as an opportunity to teach someone, to solve someone\u2019s problem, or to answer someone\u2019s question. \u00a0This is what\u00a0I am going to think of when I write my paper and analyze my sources. \u00a0When analyzing my sources, some questions I may ask myself when I am choosing these sources for my paper are&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Who was the original audience?<\/li>\n<li>What is your question or problem with this topic?<\/li>\n<li>How can I use these materials to answer questions\/solve problems?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>All in all, researching, finding good sources, and writing is a lot of work. \u00a0However, I am confident that with all of these good ideas and help in mind, I will be able to pull off a great paper!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Image:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Image 1:\u00a0http:\/\/www.lhvlc.com\/uploads\/4\/2\/7\/9\/4279570\/4415393.png?1315704717<\/p>\n<p>Image 2:\u00a0http:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/hipster-alice-in-wonderland-originality-isW4sLhHD8PzG<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sources and I have an interesting relationship. \u00a0I&#8217;m still not really sure how I feel about all the work that I put into finding them, but they definitely do help me on my papers. \u00a0For class, we had to read the article,\u00a0Helping Students Use Textual Sources Persuasively,\u00a0by Margaret Kantz that was all about sources. \u00a0As &hellip;
