In addition to all of the wonderful aquatic displays that the Monterey Bay Aquarium has to offer, there are also many areas outside where you can enjoy the beautiful ocean view. The Monterey Bay Aquarium does an exceptional job integrating technology with interactive learning. It is easy to determine how effective this combination is by estimating the number of school fieldtrips and children scattering around to and from each touch screen monitor. This is quite the change from how it used to be the past where the only way to learn about each exhibit was to read the informational boards usually located in front of the displays. Now, in addition to being able to read about the exhibits, people (especially young children) can learn in interactive and attention grabbing ways. Although I believe these advanced displays are an effective means of learning I wonder if they take away from the experience of the aquarium by distracting the participants from the actual displays containing the animals. It would be interesting to see if these displays impacted the amount of information individuals learned while in a certain section of the aquarium in either a good or bad way. I hope that you enjoy this experience as much as I did, and are able to see the many ways that the Monterey Bay Aquarium is able to integrate technology, sea life, and learning into one fun filled day adventure.
