A car invented to get from point a to point b in an environmentally friendly way

As the human race continues to innovate in various ways, technology increasingly makes tasks easier for the individual. Humans invented shoes to make walking less painful. Humans invented cars to make traveling long distances take shorter amounts of time. Now technologies are being created which can serve several purposes and make multiple tasks simpler, rather than one task that is designated from the beginning such as computers. The amount of jobs one can efficiently complete using just a computer with internet access is astounding. A student can take a class online, learn a language courtesy of Rosetta Stone, watch a favorite movie, stay updated on the current events throughout the world and even know what’s in style without leaving their bedroom. This example is a bit of an exaggerated case but it serves its purpose. In this podcast, I will be explaining the benefits of the modern library and how new technologies enhance our research capabilities and overall knowledge intake. The Santa Clara University Library is the library off which I will base my argument.

Harrington Learning Commons

The building of the Santa Clara University Library was finished in 2008. The building is four stories and 194,000 square feet. As we enter the library, we will see a large statue of a book. This is the symbol signifying that this University library is a place for studying and knowledge. Although most know the library under the simple title: Santa Clara University Library, its true name is the Harrington Learning Commons. This is the first sign of modernization I will touch upon. The building is called the learning commons because it is a place of learning. Learning, these days, is done primarily with computers and the definition of library according to Google search is, “A collection of books and periodicals held in such a building or room. Although the Learning Commons does contain a large quantity of books and periodicals, the primary focus is to learn and computers can access and help locate all of the books in the library. Thus, Computers are the main learning tool. In this podcast I will be referring to the Learning Commons as the SCU Library.
