Karel is the head of Design Executive Team of senior design executives at IBM. He also serves as the head of IBM Studios Canada and IBM Innovation Corps executive for Canada. Karel has led design worldwide at IBM for almost three decades, where he has introduced and implemented IBM’s Enterprise Design Thinking into each of the business units of the company globally.
Karel blogs on design at karelvredenburg.com, and has a popular podcast “Life Habits Mentoring.”
He is a co-founder of the Future of Design Education initiative, and is Industry Professor at McMaster University.

David Bauer
David (SCU ’92, English alumnus) will talk about how his company Hemispheres takes a humanistic approach to marketing research with both domestic and international assignments. He will share some highlights and cultural insights from working around the globe and with international colleagues. This presentation will also include some thoughts about ways Covid may change how consumers act and how people work in the near future.
David Bauer has spent over twenty-five years exploring human perceptions and behaviors and their implications for business strategy. He has personally conducted qualitative research across North American and Europe as well as in Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, China, and Australia.
