Introduction

Beach Street

Beach Street

(Check out the map!) The Boardwalk is located on Beach Street in Santa Cruz, California. It actually started out as a public bathhouse in 1865 by John Leibrandt. (Find out more about the Boardwalk’s History) Slowly, many tourists came came to bathe in salt water as this water was considered a natural medicine. Slowly, there were an addition of restaurants, shops, and finally roller coasters came into the picture in the early 1900s.

There are many activities for people of all ages including walking along the boardwalk, riding the roller coasters, or simply enjoying the beautiful view of the water. Not only activities, but there are variety of different food options on the Boardwalk as well. After walking through the Boardwalk several times, I came up with the conclusion that Boardwalk serves unhealthy foods.

Well, No Duh!, it is an amusement park after all! Of course, it is going to serve foods for relaxation. However, there is a danger associated with this. Unlike other amusement parks, the Boardwalk does not charge an entrance fee. As a result, this Boardwalk may become a part of people’s experience to Santa Cruz Beach. Secondly, this Boardwalk has become a hangout place for teenagers similar to how a mall functions. When teenagers go to hang out in malls, they may not necessarily purchase clothing, but they may purchase a pretzel or soft serve from the food court. Similarly, the hazard at the Boardwalk is these teenagers will come here frequently due to free admission and consume the junk food available constantly. Therefore, while touring, I will point out the dietary dangers of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! Nevertheless, the Boardwalk is a great place to relax and enjoy time with the family and nature. So, let’s get started!
