The picture is of Santa Clara&#8217;s newspaper which displays a title saying &#8220;Tradition Shattered&#8221;. This newspaper article was written in response to Santa Clara beginning to enroll girls into the school.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The immediate connotation the reader receives from this newspaper article is that it was a negative thing to allow girls into the school. The rhetoric displayed by the author usin<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=i&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=images&amp;cd=&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0ahUKEwj0s7CczpLNAhVOwmMKHaeUBCoQjRwIBw&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fflourishingacademic.wordpress.com%2F2015%2F04%2F30%2Fbreaking-the-glass-slipper%2F&amp;bvm=bv.123664746,d.cGc&amp;psig=AFQjCNGVf5mj2aVVToCmntb8cDORFS4RKg&amp;ust=1465273863370758\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-121 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ghonig\/files\/2016\/06\/breaking-glass-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"breaking-glass\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ghonig\/files\/2016\/06\/breaking-glass-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ghonig\/files\/2016\/06\/breaking-glass-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ghonig\/files\/2016\/06\/breaking-glass-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.scu.edu\/ghonig\/files\/2016\/06\/breaking-glass.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>g words with negative connotations such as &#8220;Shattered&#8221;\u00a0is chosen to communicate a feeling or emotion to the audience. The author clearly wanted the audience to understand that he and possibly others were not happy with the school&#8217;s decision to admit girls. Also he put the title in all caps and formatted it in absurdly large text to emphasize the magnitude of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From my perspective I dislike how the author used his rhetoric to communicate the event of turning Santa Clara University into a co-educational school. He turned what could have a been an intriguing and monumental point in the school&#8217;s history into a situation that seemed to be a bad mistake by the school. The interesting part about this situation is that the author probably did not think his audience would change from the less accepting people of the 1960&#8217;s to the more open-minded people of the 2000&#8217;s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While listening to the research projects of my peers in the classroom, this picture displayed above was a reoccurring theme found in a lot of the projects.
