Commonly, food-insecure households are also affected by water insecurity, and are vulnerable to climatic variability and extremes, as well as price volatility on domestic and international markets. Current conditions in Central America have created timely conditions for examining questions of vulnerability and resilience in the face of ‘la roya’, a rapidly spreading coffee pathogen, climate variability (e.g., drought), and sharp increases in prices for several staple foods.
