“The Water Crisis” by National Geographic is a great 45 minute long documentary that can be watched for free on YouTube. The documentary explores the growing problem of water scarcity in the USA. As well as following an actor in inspecting his house and the amount of water consumption this individual consumes. After that, the documentary gives nice suggestions on things that the individual can do to conserve a large amount of water.
I thought that the documentary was very nice in giving a general overview of the water crisis as a whole in the USA. Polluting the little water that we have left is only part of the problem, and this helps summarize it all. The other main part of the documentary follows an actor, but is still a nice portrayal of little things that individuals can do to help conserve water and to be mindful of it. There is so much technology that has been created that can be added onto all different types of appliances in households that help lessen water flows in order to conserve massive amounts of water. The biggest take away from this documentary that made it interesting is that personally I often get stuck in the mindset that my singular actions are not enough for change so why bother. Like I am unable to enforce regulations or stop illegal dumping of chemicals and other big things like that. That mindset is obviously not true and this documentary definitely reminded me of that by seeing how much this person was able to conserve and all of the technology that is created for this problem, much of it I didn’t even know existed. While yes, one person doing this may not make a significant difference, it is still something and is better than nothing. And then if more people start to do the same thing, then a difference will start to be seen. Nonetheless it’s better to be a part of the solution and not the problem.
