As I have touched on in previous blog posts, meal-prepping is my main strategy nowadays of mitigating food waste. By making dishes of exact, and limited proportions, I often finish meals with zero waste while also saving money and eating healthier. In this post, I am sharing a few tips that I have used to make meal-prepping better and more efficient!

  1. Cook the week’s meals in a single day — this saves loads of time and prevents you from having to whip up lunch or dinner every single time you want to eat.
  2. Do not complicate meals — stick to the basics. Oftentimes, I just eat rice, chicken, and broccoli. However, there is certainly room to be creative.
  3. Invest in glass containers — these are somewhat pricey (~$30 for 5 containers) but well worth it in my opinion. You can easily see what is inside the clear containers and since they are reusable, you won’t be constantly recycling plastic containers.
  4. Have a few favorite meals on repeat — it is easy to get bored of what you are eating, so make sure you are choosing foods that you can eat regularly!
  5. Find a good podcast — cooking in large quantities often takes a long time. It takes me about 90 minutes to cook everything, and I do that usually twice a week as I cook for 3 days out. I really enjoy listening to the Power Corrupts podcast, and of course the Joe Rogan Experience.
