You may be unfamiliar with organizations in your area that are there to help you on your journey to reduce waste and help clean up our city. Here are some in the Santa Clara area:
Ranchtown Metal Recycling Center
This center can help take your recyclables off your hands and they will pay you in return! They support California Redemption Value (CRV) items such as aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and glass bottles. So, for every bottle/ can under 24 oz, you can get 5¢ and anything over is worth 10¢ isn’t that cool! This is definitely something I will be taking up as an avid Yerba Mate drinker! Here is their address: 775 Lincoln Ave, San Jose, CA 95126, USA
Guadalupe River Park Conservancy
This organization is dedicated to cleaning up the Guadalupe River area. They have so many volunteering opportunities such as taking care of the Heritage Rose Garden (that I know many SCU students love to visit) or cleaning up the litter along the Guadalupe trail.
Local Farmer’s Markets
Farmer’s markets will be the best places to purchase sustainable goods and they also have delicious food made by local people! It is the best way to stay plastic free and consume ethical produce and meats while supporting local businesses. Make sure you bring plenty of cash and reusable bags because you will need it!
