  1. Rowan, H. B. (2020, January 16). A Million Californians Don’t Have Clean Drinking Water. Where Do They Live? Kaiser Health News.
    • This article talks about California residents and how there is a big number of people who do not have access to clean water. These families are stuck with unusable water that is contaminated from agricultural runoff and naturally occurring arsenic. These people are forced to buy bottled water in order to have consumable water because there groundwater is so heavily polluted.
  2. The ‘Erin Brockovich’ town is still toxic (and nearly abandoned). Grist. (2021, April 1).
    • The article talks about a town in California. Specifically talking about the city of Hinkley in California. Short summary of the story is that in the 1950s and 60s, PG&E were dumping chemicals and it seeped into the town’s groundwater causing an increase in illnesses and residents developing cancer. This article is recently written and is talking about the aftermath. Due to this event, the town is very deserted and quiet with not many people still living there. The water is also still contaminated in parts and the clean up process of this still has many years to go. It is really interesting to see the destruction that dumping chemicals has caused this city which really seems like it is irreversible damage too.
  3. Del, J. A. (2019, May 13). What’s All This About a Water Tax? The New York Times.
    • California has really bad water systems, there is a lot of water that is lost because of poor piping and water infrastructure. On top of that there is agriculture run off, industrial run off, just regular people dumping items, and more. A tax was proposed by California’s governor that would result in a very small increase to individuals on there taxes and yet there was harsh backlash to the tax. People were mad and didn’t want it and were saying that water is an essential resource so it should not be taxed.
