Today, I would like to introduce you to JARA, Japan Automotive Recyclers Alliance. Japan’s reliable cars are well known across the globe. In the U.S., there is a notion that Japanese cars have good fuel efficiency and are generally an excellent value car, but do economic success mean anything when the environment is worse off due to production and waste deriving from a successful business? More importantly, society must consider methods to minimize waste for essential products like cars that will be used indefinitely in our world. If not, waste will continue to accumulate in an exponential rate and create dysfunctional societies.
JARA is an association that promotes SDGS and sustainability in the car industry to encourage business models utilizing recycled automotive parts. JARA breaks down end of life vehicles to recycle into parts that can be sold and used by different companies for new products. JARA also provides consultation services for businesses in automotive recycling and to companies looking to integrate recycled parts in their businesses. Additionally, JARA participates in all aspects of community to promote a sustainable community as a whole.
I feel that JARA is innovative and has a lot of potential for the community since they are guiding businesses to adopt business models using recycled materials. Organizations like JARA give new businesses more opportunity for innovation that can strengthen small businesses in sustainable business models that long-standing companies have a harder time adjusting to. Hence, it encourages new businesses to enter the market and maintain competition. Potentially, small businesses have a great opportunity in such situations but JARA is beneficial to all aspects of society as well. Their work is essential in transforming societies develop into sustainable societies from a heavily industrial society.
