I was able to watch the documentary, Cowspiracy, on Netflix. This documentary is based on showing people what the animal industry is about and just how impactful it is on the environment. As far as facts, they point out that animal agriculture is responsible for 18% of global emissions, while transportation exhaust from planes and cars, things that as a society we focus on most, only makes up 13% of the global emissions. That means that animal agriculture is technically speaking a larger problem than even transportation! Livestock and their byproducts also make up a whopping 51% of global CO2 emissions, another eye-popping statistic. The team also looks ahead to the future, where they estimate that emissions from animal agriculture will increase by 80% by 2050 based on the fact that the industry is continuing to expand all the time. The main point of this documentary is that cows make up a massive part of emissions yet no one wants to take a stand against powerful corporations. People are focused on using less fuel and eating better, while the real problem is being covered up by environmentalists and supporters of the meat industry alike.
